Mobile app development cost calculator

Estimate what a native or cross-platform mobile build costs, by scope and team region.

Mobile cost swings far more than web: two native codebases, store review cycles, and the option of a cross-platform framework that trades a little polish for a lot of schedule. This calculator prices all three so you can see what your range actually is.

Who should use this tool

  • Founders pricing an app before talking to vendors
  • CTOs comparing native against cross-platform
  • Product managers scoping a release
  • Procurement teams sanity-checking agency quotes

Data sources

  • Regional blended software rates
  • Feature-level effort benchmarks
  • QA and PM overhead ratios

How we calculate this

Engineering hours are built from platform baseline, selected feature hours, a complexity multiplier, plus design and backend allowances. Hours are priced at a blended regional rate with seniority adjustment, then QA (20%) and project management (15%) are added. The baseline figure prices identical scope without AI augmentation, so the saving is derived rather than asserted. Range is ยฑ18% for specification drift.

  • โˆ’Legal or compliance audits

Factors that move the number

Native gives platform-specific polish and the best performance, but roughly doubles build hours and means two release cycles. Cross-platform is the right default unless you depend on bleeding-edge OS APIs or heavy background work.

Teams underestimate design by roughly 3ร—. A full custom system is components, states, and a documented pattern that has to survive two platforms.

Budget one rejection cycle on average. It rarely moves the number, but it moves the date, which is usually what the plan depends on.
